Lucy did not shy away from raising the negative impact of funding cuts to FE

Sarah Waite, chief executive, Get Further

Sarah Waite has unique insights into the motivations of new education secretary Lucy Powell, and the man tasked with helping to solve the NEET crisis, Alan Milburn.

She set up Get Further, the tuition charity for FE students retaking English and maths GCSEs, after working as a political adviser for Powell when she was shadow education secretary. And Waite later led on policy at the Social Mobility Commission when Milburn was its chair.

The Get Further chief executive has long argued that FE is where education can have the greatest impact on social mobility, and is spearheading a campaign for disadvantaged students to receive a student premium equivalent to the pupil premium in schools.
